The DQBM Menze Lab and the Swiss Personalized Health Network developed an extension for integrating medical imaging metadata into the SPHN Semantic Interoperability Framework. Based on FAIR principles and standards including DICOM and SNOMED CT, it connects imaging information with clinical data such as diagnoses, patient visits and biosamples.
The team formalized 30 concepts covering CT, MRI, PET and X-ray data, including acquisition parameters, imaging procedures and processing algorithms. The framework addresses a major interoperability gap and supports consistent data exchange, validation and reuse. Swiss hospitals are now developing pipelines to test the extension with real-world data.
