An international expert group involving the DQBM Krauthammer Lab examined why promising bioinformatics tools often stall before clinical implementation. Drawing on a survey and multidisciplinary workshop, the authors identified regulatory uncertainty, fragmented data access, limited infrastructure and workforce gaps as central obstacles.
The article recommends centralized regulatory guidance, standardized validation processes, improved data repositories and stronger collaboration between researchers, clinicians, IT specialists and legal experts. It also calls for dedicated funding, implementation-focused training and pilot projects that demonstrate clinical value. Although the analysis focuses on Denmark, the authors argue that many of the barriers and proposed solutions are relevant internationally.
